L7032 FAQ

What is the advantage of continuous forms?

Many business printing applications require more complex media than simple plain paper.  For example, a direct mail piece may require a heavy card stock be used, or a catalog invoice might require peel-off shipping and return address labels.  A cut sheet printer, which can only rely on the nuances of friction, cannot hope to reliably grab and feed these complex forms.  Perhaps even more critical, the paper path within almost all desktop laser printers involves tight curves that virtually guarantee jams and labels shedding into the mechanism  In sharp contrast, the L7032 continuous forms printer uses a straight paper path and unambiguous pin fed tractor drive to move the forms through the print mechanism.

Will reports printed on plain paper benefit from a continuous form solution?

Yes.  Although cut sheet printers can fairly reliably handle plain paper, what is often overlooked is the difficultly involved handling large volumes of loose sheets.  By design a report printed using continuous forms is kept together in sequence and is ready to be paged through straight from the printer.  In contrast, a cut sheet report requires additional steps to carefully bind all the loose pages into a reviewable stable format.

How does the input output capacity compare?

Generally speaking, cut sheet printers are really only suited for small print runs.  They will typically have one or more source drawers capable of holding 250 to 500 sheets.  To load a substantial amount of source media requires adding the maximum number of drawer options and loading each one to the fullest.  On the output side, things are usually even more limited with printed sheets stacking loosely into a shallow output bin.  Unlike a cut sheet printer, the L7032 is supplied from full boxes of media containing several thousand sheets.  Furthermore, a variety of output stacking options are available to insure the entire box can be printed and neatly stacked in one uninterrupted print run.

How does the cost of operation compare to typical cut sheet laser printer?

The raw cost of the various consumable items yield a comparable cost per page.  However, the life of the components on the L7032 is very long, reducing down time and labor to refresh the consumables.  Couple this with the superior input and output capability and the overall cost of operation is more favorable for the L7032.

I am currently using an L1024 / L1524 class machine, how do they compare?

The L7032 holds three key advantages over these older products.  The first and most important is the cost of operation.  These older models cost twice as much per page in consumables.  For large production applications, installing an L7032 will result in a dramatic reduction in ongoing costs that will quickly justify the purchase of a new printer.  Second, the rate of operator intervention is significantly reduced.  For example, the drum’s life extends from 30,000 pages to a 13X improvement of 400,000 pages with the L7032.  Finally, the wide 13.6" print width and 600 DPI imaging, expands the range of applications they can handle.

My line matrix application is migrating to Windows, is an L7032 a solution?

Yes.  The L7032 is ideally suited to work in line matrix applications that are migrating to Windows based environments.  The P7000HD also serves this requirement, but for high volume applications, the L7032 will support much higher throughputs.   With a 13.6 inch print width matching line matrix, a similar foot print, and the ability to handle continuous forms, the L7032 printer is ideal for this.

How frequently does this printer require user intervention?

This printer is designed for high volume throughput and therefore has very long life supply items.  The shortest life for any item is the toner which will last 32,000 letter sized pages at 4% coverage.  All the other items have a life from 400,000 to 800,000 pages.

Can I refresh all the consumable items myself, or do I need a trained service person?

One key advantage of the L7032 is the ease of replacing any of the consumable items.  Each item can be swapped in seconds without any special training or tools.  Even the front cover will not close unless all items are properly secured in place; providing one more measure of confidence all is done correctly.  Couple this ease of change with the long consumable lives, and the L7032 sets a new benchmark in terms of uptime for a product in this category.
