A printer emulation is the set of commands available which controls features such as print pitch and mode, underlining, and bold. Selecting a particular print driver on a host computer sets up the host computer to work with a particular printer emulation.
Printronix printers support various emulations. From your printer documentation or the list below, pick an emulation supported by both your printer and your host computer, then enable that emulation on your printer and select the matching driver on your host computer.
When using a graphics language, such as Printronix Graphics Language (PGL) or the Code V graphics language (VGL), it may be necessary to use a generic, non-backspacing text driver as your print driver to avoid interfering with the graphics language.

The Windows 3.X or Windows 95 generic text driver offers limited programming support, but allows the user to define command sequences for print pitch, wide on/off, bold on/off, and underline on/off. Click on Properties/Fonts, or check your computer documentation for details on setting up the programming sequences. Check your printer documentation for information on the correct programming sequences to use.
If print speed is an issue, use a generic text driver or select native printer fonts rather than TrueType fonts. Native printer fonts are identified in a Windows font list by a printer icon.
For best results with graphic languages such as PGL and VGL, use a generic text driver and set the page margins in the application to zero to avoid sending unwanted formatting characters in the data stream.
