Industrial bar code and forms printing from ERP/WMS systems requires specialized knowledge to ensure timely, cost effective project implementation. Typically, many questions arise:
- Does the system support native barcoding?
- What are the tradeoffs of using middleware?
- How can performance requirements for label production be met?
- How easy will it be for in-house staff to maintain label formats?
Printronix has comprehensive, robust, and field-proven solutions for a variety of ERP/WMS printing environments. Our expert staff has years of experience addressing all the subtle nuances of output management, barcoding, and label generation. That’s why so many companies the world over rely on Printronix for expediting critical path projects and delivering turn-key labeling solutions.
We will work closely with your staff to formulate requirements, map-out current and desired data-flow, solution design and implementation (including layout of label and integration with database elements), and testing. Often, assistance can be provided remotely without the need for expensive travel considerations.

Oracle Services
There’s a growing need to print labels and forms with high quality barcodes out of Oracle. Integration of barcode printers with Oracle requires either creation of custom printer control files, or integration with middleware. Which approach is best? The right answer depends on your operational needs.
If you need help determining the best method of printer integration - or a helping hand in understanding the nuances of creating efficient and effective printer definition files – count on Printronix Professional Services for assistance. Our application specialists are fully trained and experienced in getting printers fully integrated into Oracle. We can improve your label creation and barcode printing productivity. We also have ready solutions so you can create labels with the latest software - and still print directly to your printers without resorting to middleware. Get in touch for details.
Baan Services
Printronix offers a full compliment of Baan printer drivers. While many users can integrate with these drivers themselves, we can demonstrate many ways to improve your label creating and barcode printing productivity.
The below documents describe the Baan compatible Printronix printer information files (printer driver) designed by Printronix specifically for the P5000, LaserLine, and ThermaLine printers using PGL emulation. Familiarity with Baan Tools will be needed to install and use the printer information files.
The Printronix printer information files consist of seven files. These files are:
-
Application Notes - PDF version of App Notes (181kb)
-
PGL - The main printer information file (printer driver) for all Printronix printers running the PGL emulation.
-
Type01 - Barcode script 1, used to define dynamic alphanumeric text fields
-
Type02 - Barcode script 2, used to define dynamic barcode data fields
-
Type03 - Barcode script 3, used to define dynamic logos
-
Type04 - Barcode script 4, used to implement any PGL command
-
Lp Form and Report.sh - Bourne script to print a PGL form first, followed by the report
Middleware Integration
Middleware printing requires an intermediate software application to take data from a host-based ERP/WMS system and merge it with labels or forms created by the middleware application. The merged output is then sent to the printer for output. Integration with the ERP/WMS system is typically accomplished using one of the following methods:
-
ASCII file drop
-
FTP
-
ODBC Link
-
TCP/IP socket connection
-
XML
Middleware printing offers the advantage of abstracting away the nuances of understanding any given ERP/WMS package, then shifting control of label/form production to a central, easy-to-understand system. Often, this is a highly desirable approach. Printronix has extensive experience in providing middleware solutions to customers including:
- Needs assessment – Determining if this is the best solution for you
- Design, installation, and custom configurations of most popular middleware packages
